WRAL.com is reporting that the North Carolina state Elections Board moved North Carolina's primary from May 4th to July 20th because because federal judges have not finished reviewing proposed new districts for General Assembly seats. In response, the state Democratic Party will abandon the primary system in favor of county caucuses on April 19 to determine which presidential candidate will get North Carolina's delegates to the Democratic National Convention. July 20th was chosen because it is the latest date that the primary could be held and still meet requirements for organizing an election, such as printing ballots.
