Former Red Sox first baseman, now Mets first baseman, Doug Mientkiewicz has reached an agreement with the Red Sox organization in regards to the baseball that was the ball from the final out of the World Series. Doug will loan the ball to the Red Sox for the coming year but will maintain ownership. I would like to point your attention to Harvard law professor Paul Weiler's analysis of the issue that appeared in the New York Times a few weeks ago. Looks like this works out well for Doug. Personally, I think the compromise is great - in my mind, Doug should be allowed to keep the ball. To paraphrase Bronson Arroyo on Cold Pizza a few weeks ago, "If they'd given me the ball, I'd keep it too."
