The folks at Wake Forest have a busy calendar, so I thought I would pass along tidbits. The legendary Arnold Palmer will be the 2005 Commencement speaker. This, on the heels of Colin Powell who spoke last year, shows that WFU gets more impressive commencement speakers than does UNC (and that gripes me). On March 24, former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin (now with Citgroup) will speak at the Broyhill Executive Lecture at the Babcock Graduate School of Management. North Carolina Treasurer Richard Moore will speak at the Wake Forest law school on February 10, and Judge John G. Roberts, Jr. of the DC Circuit Court will give the Jeff Rupe Memorial Lecture on February 25 at the law school. Today, Democratic strategist James Carville spoke at WFU's Founders' Day Convocation.
Congratulations are in order for High Point resident and HPU alumnus Nido Qubein who became President of High Point University in January. His fundraising campaign is in full swing and is ahead of schedule. He set a goal of raising $10 million in 60 days and instead raised $20 million in 29 days!
