Country Roads or Rocky Top?

Why would John Beilein leave West Virginia for Tennessee? I think Joe Biddle is dealing with some wishful thinking. He's in a basketball conference (Big East) and has made the Sweet 16. He has players who buy into his system now. Tennessee is in a football conference (SEC), is not even one of the best few jobs in that league, and has no history of success. I wouldn't be leaving on a jet plane anytime soon. Stay in West Virginia.

More UT news. Dana Altman from Creighton would be a great fit. He has done about all he can do at Creighton. Bruce Pearl from UW-Milwaukee is a hot name right now, but all of his experience is from the midwest and all of his recruiting ties are in the midwest. The midwest being Big Ten country, he won't have much success pulling the types of players a big major school would need away from the Big Ten to go to a lower-tier SEC team. He'll get his shot in the Big Ten someday. (Though clearly not at Illinois.) If Iowa's Alford goes to Indiana after next season (doubtful, but possible), the ex-Iowa assistant Pearl may be a perfect choice for the Hawkeyes. Haith should stay at Miami if Diaz and Hite return for next season. Anderson from UAB is a nice fit for the SEC as a head coach from the south and a former assistant at Arkansas.

Me? I still like Lutz for UT. If not Lutz, toss-up between Altman and Anderson (though UT seems cool on Anderson).

UPDATE: Haith signed an extension at Miami. Smart man.
