Over the coming weeks I hope to post more thoughts on an issue that is important to the poor and elderly in America (and is shaping up to be important in the political landscape as well). That key issue is Medicaid.
I have mentioned in passing that Governor Jeb Bush is making sweeping reform plans for Medicaid in Florida. However, he needs the federal government and the Florida legislature to buy into the idea. I will work on posting more information on the proposal as time permits. As Governor Bush seems to be a GOP frontrunner for the 2008 nomination (supposedly against his will), others with aspirations seem to be bringing this topic up now as well. For instance, Newt Gingrich has some good ideas for Medicaid.
Medicaid is a tough nut to crack, but it is imperative for the people and for the financial security of the 50 states that something be done to fix the system.
