On Monday, I commented on WXII's failure to broadcast the final round of the TPC. This morning, I received a reply comment from WXII (copied below). I respect the decision that was made, but I still question why they did not move Oprah and the local news to their alternative channels (especially the newscasts). Thank you to Mr. Price for this reply.
Thank you very much for your comments regarding Monday's coverage of ThePlayers Championship.
From time to time we find ourselves in the unfortunate position of having more programming than we are able to carry. Monday was one of those days.
Here's what happened: Monday morning NBC notified us that coverage of the fourth round would begin at 2:00 pm Eastern. We were able to clear ourschedule from 2:00 until 4:00 pm and carried the tournament live. Our planwas to move coverage at 4:00 pm to our new digital station and also considered offering coverage on Weather Plus, our new 24-hour weather channel. In addition, we called Time-Warner and offered them the opportunity to carry the broadcast on any channel they chose.
About mid-afternoon NBC notified us that we would not be able to broadcast the tournament on any of the places we had proposed. As a result of this decision, we did not have an alternate place to air the golf tournament.
At 6:24pm, NBC notified us that there would not be a feed of NBC NightlyNews at 6:30pm, therefore we had to extend our local news to cover the timeperiod.
I apologize for the inconvenience this caused you as a viewer. I'm sincerely sorry we were not able to bring you all of the final round.
